Adele was visibly upset announcing the news that her Las Vegas shows would no longer be going ahead
Within minutes of the Someone Like You singer breaking the sad news, many took to social media to vent their frustration at the costly implications for her cancellation.
"The people with first weekend show tickets may not be able to afford the time or money to reschedule something like this," one Twitter user pointed out, as many revealed they had already begun to arrive in Las Vegas for the first show.
Some super fans of the Grammy award-winning singer had not only shelled out for flights and accommodation to see the star, but even purchased tickets for the show for an eye-watering resale price – with some even changing hands for up to £20,000.
Many fans had purchased more than just a ticket to the now-axed show
"Super bummed that Adele has postponed all of her shows in Las Vegas. I've already spent $1200 between airfare, hotel, and the concert tickets. Not to mention vacation time from work," one disappointed fan shared online as the news of the cancellation broke.
Another explained directly to Adele – who is said to be worth an estimated $220million – how many won't be able to afford to see a rescheduled performance.
Many are fuming about the fact they've already flown into Las Vegas
"This breaks my heart, for you and for me. I know how hard it is to put on a show, especially with a pandemic," they began their tweet to the star.
"But it’s also hard to save enough money, to get time off work from a hospital, that is short staffed, book a flight and hotel, fly in two days early and find out 30 hrs before the show, when we are already here, that the reason we came for is not going to happen.
"The people with first weekend show tickets may not be able to afford the time or money to reschedule something like this."
One British fan even posted a snap from outside Caesar's Palace just as it was announced the show would not be going ahead.
Captioning the picture, he tweeted: "Christmas gift gone pear shaped as my wife and daughter are on the way to meet me in Vegas and unfortunately Adele has had to cancel."
Some fans were more sympathetic towards the singer and the situation.
Sharing a couple of snaps from outside where the London-born star should have been performing on Friday night, they tweeted: "I shot my shot I landed in Las Vegas to discover tomorrow’s Adele concert was cancelled like I heard was probably going to happen. These tickets will wait for another day.
Some fans want a full refund rather than a rearrange performance date
"But I’m here! I still adore Adele. Life is short & precious, & I’m glad I at least tried."
In her emotional video on Thursday, a visibly upset Adele stressed that she had "tried absolutely everything" she could to try make sure the shows went ahead before cancelling.
"I'm sorry it's so last minute, we've been awake for over 30 hours now trying to figure it out and we've run out of time and I'm so upset and I'm really embarrassed," she told her heartbroken fans.
Adele was clearly gutted when sharing the sad update with fans
"I'm so sorry to everyone that's travelled again, I'm really really sorry.
"We're on it we're going to reschedule all of the dates and I'm going to finish the show and get it to where it's supposed to be for you."
The singer filmed the tearful video in her hotel room before sharing it across her social media platforms – promising fans further updates.
"All dates will be rescheduled, more info coming soon," the singing sensation captioned the emotional clip online.
