Adele has revealed that she's given up drinking alcohol to get her voice ready for her big comeback.

The Someone Like You singer is releasing her long-awaited new music this week with her track Easy On Me coming out on Thursday.

She did a surprise Instagram Live for her fans last week and took their questions, where she revealed she had gone teetotal.

One of the fans asked her what her favourite drink is, and she told them it used to be an Aperol Spritz.

"Aperol spritz, I love that," she said. "Although because I'm gearing up to come back I'm having to cut out my drinking."

During her recent interview with Vogue, Adele said she has a "close relationship" with booze.

She revealed: "I was always very fascinated by alcohol. It's what kept my dad from me. So I always wanted to know what was so great about it."

Adele said that the Covid-induced lockdown turned her into a "seven-nights-a-week wine drinker".

After her divorce from Simon Konecki she was frequenting nightclubs in Los Angeles, and drinking excessively.

Adele added: "I was falling out the back door of the bar rather than falling out of the front.

"Then I remember I woke up with the worst hangover. Hangxiety, I call it."

During her Instagram Live she played her fans a snippet of Easy On Me, but admitted she'd probably "get in trouble" with her management for posting it.

But she also avoided an awkward question from one fan who asked her what her body count was, which means how many people she has slept with.

Adele didn't seem to understand the question, replying: "Erm, what’s my body count? What does that mean?"

Her followers were shocked that someone would ask such a personal question, with one calling it "hideous".

The popstar's new track Easy On Me marks her first new music in six years, and it comes ahead of her fourth studio album release next month.

In the lyrics of the new track, Adele sings: "There is no gold in this river that I've been washing my hands in forever.

"I know there is hope in these waters but I can't bring myself to swim when I am drowning in the silence, baby let me…"

Adele also revealed that her divorce from Simon was the inspiration behind the new album, which is rumoured to be titled 30.

She told fans: "What's my next album going to be based on? Divorce, babe, divorce."
