Alan Carr has shown he's standing by his man as he battles a longstanding alcohol addiction.

.

The Chatty Man host, 45, has told how he takes months of the booze in solidarity with his hubby Paul Drayton who lapsed his recovery in the summer.

And the comedy king has admitted he found his latest six-month stint which spanned Christmas and New Year particularly hard to cope with.

He said: 'It was the worst f****ing Christmas I've ever had. And my mother didn't help by offering him a Bailey's and going: 'It's only Bailey's – what's the worst that can happen!'"

Alan explained that being sober saw him end up ferrying his drunk family and friends around his Northampton home town.

But never short of a witty line, he recalled: "I walked into a pub and the DJ clocked me and shouted over the mic 'Alan Carr everyone, Northampton's favourite son!' I told him I wasn't even my father's favourite son!"

But Paul, 50, has overcome his problem with alcohol in the past sadly only to lapse back after 650 days without having a drink.

He posted on Instagram: "It's hard but F@#k me it's worth it! Please reach out if you've got any questions on sobriety or how I manage. #gratitude #sober #alcoholic #boozefreelife #nomorehangovers #clarity #cardib (just threw that in) #keepgoing #stopsmoking too."

Alan also told recently how he quit Twitter two years ago because one of his posts about a curry sparked backlash from his followers.

But for fans keen to see the star in the flesh, Alan is thrilled to be back on the road with his Tour Regional Trinket which kicked off last week.
