When Nina discovered he was planning to move she pleaded with him to reconsider, and even enlisted the help of his friends and loved ones to convinced him to stay.

However, burdened with the guilt of knowing Abi’s gun was responsible for Natasha’s death, Roy decided he’d be better off with a fresh start, and drove out of Weatherfield in a taxi.

Roy has been a pillar of the cobbles since he arrived in 1995, and became loved for his romance and eventual marriage to wife Hayley.

Viewers were devastated when Hayley passed away in 2014 after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, with Roy struggling to move on from her death.

In recent months Roy has formed a close relationship with his long lost niece Nina, supporting her after her boyfriend Seb was killed in a hate crime, but has battled with the guilt of knowing Abi had acquired a gun to try and kill Seb’s attacker.

It remains to be seen whether Roy decides to come back to Weatherfield in the near future, after Nina was left devastated by her uncle’s departure.

Coronation Street continues on Friday at 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV.
