Dancing With The Stars: Iman Shumpert and Daniella Karagach win season 30 and Mirrorball Trophy

Iman Shumpert and his pro partner Daniella Karagach won season 30 of Dancing With The Stars on Monday during a two-hour finale on ABC.

The 31-year-old basketball player and Daniella, 28, earned perfect scores for both their fusion routine and freestyle performance as they took home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.

JoJo Siwa, 18, and her pro partner Jenna Johnson, 27, finished in second place.

Cody Rigsby, 34, and his pro partner Cheryl Burke, 37, finished in third place, while Amanda Kloots, 39, and her pro partner Alan Bersten, 27, came in fourth.

Iman became the first NBA star to win the competition and it was the first win for Daniella who reached the finals last season with Nelly, 47, and finished in third place.

Show host Tyra Banks, 47, revealed the winner after viewer voting was tabulated along with the scores from the judges.

The finalists were judged by Carrie Ann Inaba, 53, head judge Len Goodman, 77, Bruno Tonioli, 65, and fill-in judge Julianne Hough, 33, who stepped in for her brother Derek Hough, 36, after he tested positive for COVID-19.

‘The winners and new champions of Dancing With The Stars are …,’ Tyra said with a dramatic pause after Iman and JoJo were named as the last two finalists.

‘Oh, my god! Iman and Daniella!,’ Tyra screamed as she read a card naming the winner.

The other dancers lifted Iman up on their shoulders as confetti dropped and Daniella also was swamped with congratulations.

Iman and Daniella had received back to back perfect scores from the judges for their last two dances of the season.

They particularly blew the judges and the audience away with their Chicago step-inspired freestyle dance to Missy Eliott’s song Lose Control wearing blue sweatsuits with white T-shirts and white sneakers.

‘What just happened in this ballroom,’ Tyra said after their freestyle.

‘That was amazing,’ Bruno said as he praised Iman for his footwork.

Julianne stood up and said she would go on record that it was her favorite freestyle in 30 seasons of the show.

‘That was sick, it was so good,’ said Carrie Anne who loved how Iman also let Daniella shine during a solo.

Earlier in the show, Daniella spoke about how they used their height difference to their advantage and declared that Iman was the most improved competitor on the show.

‘That is what the show is all about taking someone who has never danced a day in their life and making them into a dancer,’ Daniella said.

Iman won an NBA Championship in 2016 while playing with LeBron James, 36, on the Cleveland Cavaliers and was focused on another championship.

Los Angeles Lakers star Carmelo Anthony, 37, sent a video message and told Iman, ‘Finish what you started’.

The finalists received words of support before the results were revealed and Kim Kardashian, 41, had a message for JoJo.

‘You’re honestly such an inspiration to so many people. Good luck, and I love you,’ Kim told her.

Amanda and Alan were the first to hit the dance floor performing a fusion dance that combined a Viennesse waltz and Paso doble.

Before she performed, Amanda said that being on the show had always been one of her dreams.

‘It has been on my vision board from day one,’ Amanda said to the camera. ‘I do think we can win this. I think that Alan and I have a really great partnership and connection that shines on that dance floor and I do think we have a shot.’

Amanda, who wore a sultry red sequined off-the-shoulder dress, twirled around with Alan during their fusion dance routine to the INXS song Never Tear Us Apart.

Julianne afterward told the audience that her brother Derek was feeling fine and praised Amanda for her consistency.

‘You’ve got beauty, talent, and range. You’ve got it all,’ Bruno told her.

Len compared her dancing to an eclipse and said, ‘It doesn’t show up very often, but when it does …spectacular.’

Amanda told Tyra that being on the show literally changed her life.

The judges gave them a score of 38 out of 40.

Peloton instructor Cody and Cheryl danced next. Before he took the stage, Cody spoke about the difficulties they had competing when Cheryl got COVID-19 and they had to perform separately at their homes over Zoom.

‘When you roll up your sleeves, you do the work, you can absolutely achieve anything that you want to,’ Cody said.

For their fusion dance they combined the Paso doble with the Cha-cha-cha and performed to En Vogue’s Free Your Mind.

‘You have proven yourself,’ Carrie Ann told Cody after their fusion dance.

The judges gave them a score of 36 out of 40.

She’s back: Julianne was thrilled to be back in the ballroom

JoJo and Jenna performed next after the YouTuber revealed in a confessional that she ‘just had the best 10 weeks’ of her life.

‘And I’m determined to make tonight the ultimate best night ever,’ JoJo added.

For their fusion dance they combined a Tango with the Cha-cha-cha and performed it to Icona Pop’s song I Love It.

‘You just proved that it doesn’t matter if it’s two girls dancing, two guys, a man and a woman, if the dancing is great magic happens,’ Len said.

‘You can never be one thing because you are all things and because you are all things you show that everyone else can be all things,’ Julianne said.

The judges gave them a perfect score of 40 out of 40.

‘What I love about your dancing is that you dance cool,’ Len told Iman.

Julianne said he never lost himself and ‘integrated it in the most juicy and beautiful way’ into his dancing.

‘King of the ballroom,’ Bruno said.

The judges gave them a perfect score of 40 out of 40.

Derek appeared remotely and said he was feeling better before thanking the pro dancers for their hard work all season.

The season finale also included singing performances by previously eliminated contestants Mel C, 47, and Jimmie Allen, 36.

The four finalists also performed a last freestyle dance.

For his final dance, Cody wore a striped sequined outfit and was lowered onto the dance floor via a wire moon that dropped from the ceiling.

He spun around on a stripper pole and twerked during his out of the box routine to ‘Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels (Just Dance version)’ by Todrick Hall.

‘Out, loud, proud, absolutely fabulous,’ Bruno said.

Amanda and Alan were up next and danced a freestyle barefoot to Coldplay’s A Sky Full Of Stars. Alan lifted Amanda up on his shoulders and twirled her around as three professional dancers performed alongside them.

The judges gave them a perfect score of 40 out of 40.

JoJo and Jenna performed their freestyle to Born This Way by Lady Gaga.

‘I feel safe with the future. With role models like you we are going to be okay,’ Carrie Ann told JoJo, who wore a metallic two-piece outfit and silver boots.

Bruno told her that he wished she was around when he was a kid.

Tyra then revealed the results and named Iman and Daniella as the winners.

Dancing With The Stars: Injuries and Health Issues on ABC show

In 2006, season two contestant Romeo Miller withdrew from Dancing With The Stars due to an injury and was replaced by his father Master P.

Pro dancer Derek Hough during season six in 2008 pulled his neck during rehearsal and missed a week of dancing.

Derek during season seven also blacked out during rehearsal after tripping and landing on the back of his head.

Season seven also saw the departure of Misty May-Treanor after she was injured during practice and ruptured her Achilles tendon.

Brooke Burke also severely bruised her foot during season seven during camera blocking when she landed hard doing a front flip with pro partner Derek.

Nancy O’Dell withdrew from season eight due to a torn meniscus, along with Jewel who fractured both her tibias just before the season premiere.

Steve-O also suffered a pulled back muscle during dress rehearsal in season eight and was unable to perform the salsa live.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay during season nine withdrew from the competition in week three after injuring his foot during rehearsals before the premiere.

Billy Dee Williams was forced to withdraw from season 18 due to a chronic back problem.

Season 21 saw two contestants drop-out midseason due to health issues with Kim Zolciak departing after suffering a mini-stroke and Tamar Braxton withdrawing after doctors discovered pulmonary embolisms in her lungs.

Pro dancer Mark Ballas during season 22 injured his back during rehearsal and was unable to perform for a week with his partner, UFC fighter Paige VanZant.

Pro dancer Sharna Burgess during season 23 injured her knee during rehearsal with James Hinchcliffe and was out for two weeks.

Pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy during season 24 suffered a calf muscle injury during rehearsal with Heather Morris and was replaced by dance troupe member Alan Bersten during a four-week recovery period.

Christie Brinkley broke her arm during practice five days before the season 28 premiere and was replaced by her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook. 

Ray Lewis was forced to withdraw from season 28 after suffering three torn tendons in his foot during practice ahead of week three Movie Night. He re-aggravated an injury from 2010 while playing football for the Baltimore Ravens.

Country singer Lauren Alaina during Halloween Week of season 28 revealed that she’d been dancing with ‘four hurt ribs,’ having broken one during the first week of the show, and noting the others ‘don’t feel great’. 

The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe suffered an ‘ankle injury’ during week two of season 29, but still performed with pro partner Artem Chigvintsev. She later revealed during Disney Night that she was suffering from tendonitis and shin splints.

Pro dancer Cheryl Burke announced on September 26, 2021, that she had tested positive for COVID-19 before the second episode of season 30. Her celebrity partner Cody Rigsby tested positive for the coronavirus a few days later and they continued competing together, but dancing in separate rooms.

Olympic gymnast Suni Lee during season 30 also bolted after her performance on Queen Night to throw up, but rallied to stay in the competition.

Judge Derek Hough missed the season 30 finale after being diagnosed with a breakthrough case of COVID-19 and was replaced by his sister Julianne.
