Danniella Westbrook has paid homage to the late Barbara Windsor with a cheeky snap online.

The former EastEnders star took to her Instagram account on Monday to share a picture of herself emulating the legendary actress.

Wearing nothing but a skimpy heart-shaped bikini-esque ensemble, Danniella, 48, made a nod towards the soap legend's iconic role in Carry On Doctor, where she played Nurse Sandra May.

In the saucy snap, the former Sam Mitchell actress wears her blonde hair in the very same style Barbara rocked for the infamous cheeky scenes in 1967 film.

"In the words of the late Dame Barbara Windsor Carry on regardless'," Danniella captioned the tribute to her 76,700 Instagram followers.

The star famously played the late icon's daughter on the BBC soap EastEnders

Barbara – who passed away aged 83 last year – was best known for her role on EastEnders as formidable matriarch Peggy Mitchell.

The legendary soap star appeared on screen with Danniella during her time playing Sam Mitchell, her daughter, on and off between 1990 and 2000.

Sam went on to be played by two other actresses following Danniella's departure from the BBC soap, but in 2016, the Celebrity Big Brother star reprised the role for the funeral on her on-screen mother.

In the comment section of Danniella's tribute to Barbara's Carry On character, fans suggested the late star would be 'honoured' by her on-screen daughter's post.

"Babs would be Honoured, Lady Westbrook you look sensational," one follower quipped under the saucy snap.

Another added: "Love this. Such an iconic outfit. RIP Babs. X"

"Love it, I’d love to see you back in eastenders xx," a third mused.

Earlier this year, Danniella opened up about her memories of Barbara shortly after her death.

The British actress passed away at the age of 83 on 10 December 2020.

The following month, Danniella reflected on her time working with her former EastEnders co-star during an interview on BBC Breakfast.

"She was the most feisty, hardworking woman I've ever met in my life. I learned everything I know from her work-wise. She taught me how to listen. The woman was phenomenal," she emotionally recalled on the show.

"She did pages and pages of learning and walked into the Queen Vic and it was like she was always meant to have been there. She raised the game of the whole show."

Danniella was one of the famous faces to attend the star's private funeral in January 2021.

Prior to her death, Barbara had battled Alzheimer's for six years and, along with her husband Scott Mitchell, raised awareness for the disease.

In a statement for the Alzheimer's Society following her sad death, the charity praised the actress and her partner and stated the couple had been "instrumental" in raising money needed for vital research.

Part of the statement read: "We will be forever grateful to Dame Barbara Windsor and her husband Scott Mitchell for sharing their dementia experience so bravely and publicly raising awareness of what it's like to live through this devastating disease, for people with dementia and their carers.

"Both Dame Barbara and Scott were instrumental in putting social care on the map through supporting our Fix Dementia Care campaign and in raising vital funds for dementia research through Dementia Revolution – the most successful Virgin Money London Marathon charity partnership campaign ever."
