Deon Estus dead: Wham! and George Michael’s guitar player dies at 65

Deon Estus has died at the age of 65.

The sad news of Deon's passing was announced via the American bassist's Twitter page on Monday evening.

A message shared on the micro-blogging site read: "It is with real sadness I post that Deon Estus passed away This Morning. Deon was mostly known as the third member of Wham! Deon was passionate about music and loved interacting with his loyal fans. #onlyloveisreal."

The post was illustrated with a snap of Deon beaming as he hugged a guitar.

Heartbroken fans showed their upset at hearing of Deon's death.

One penned: "Such sad news and terrible loss Deon will be sadly missed my thoughts and condolences go to Deon, all his family and friends."

A second added: "@DeonEstus you were such an amazing musician and singer and a beautiful presence in all the Wham videos. Your infectious smile, warmth and talent will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace now with our dear George by your side."

More joined in: "I am deeply saddened by this terrible news, another music icon gone far too soon, my condolences to all his dear family and friends, rip Deon heaven will be playing the best music right now, George will have lots to say to you I’m sure" and "@DeonEstus So sorry to hear this. He contributed so much to the world of music. He helped define the 80s. And boy, What a bass player!"

Estus’ partner Brenda Kaye Pearce took to Facebook to pay tribute to Deon.

She penned: "My dearest, closest partner and significant other of 4 years transitioned and all I can remember is our last conversation the day before. My heart will need time to heal. R.I.P. Deon. Love you forever."

Estus had an impressive CV and was famous for playing with Wham! and George Michael.

He co-wrote the hit 1989 song Heaven Help Me with Michael that appeared on album Spell.

Other famous faces Estus worked with included Elton John, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner and Annie Lennox.
