Grace and Frankie’s Jane Fonda says she wants to sit on Ryan Gosling’s face

The finale series of Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie has just dropped on the streaming service following a seven season run.

However one of the most iconic moments in the series took place during the first ever episode – and it involved Jane Fonda and a chair covered in Ryan Gosling’s face.

Following the fall out from the news that her character Grace’s husband Robert [Martin Sheen] is leaving her for Frankie’s husband Sol [Sam Waterston], Grace is at home after sharing the news with their children.

Grace, who is played by Jane, 84, receives a package from a delivery man who tells her to have a good day – before she swiftly tells him to ‘f**k off’.

Taking the parcel into the other room to unwrap it, she discovers that it is a dining chair with a seat that features 41-year-old actor Ryan’s face.

Grace bursts in to tell Robert that his chair has arrived and he informs her that it is a ‘private joke’, between him and Sol.

Following a heated chat, Grace grabs the chair and tells her husband ‘if anyone is going to sit on Ryan Gosling’s face it’s going to be me.’ 

The chair reappears at the end of the episode when she is sat in the beach house with Frankie, contemplating what to do next with their lives now they have both been dumped by their husbands.

During a lighthearted moment together Grace laughs and says: ‘I think I just peed on Ryan Gosling’s face a little.’

Before the first series aired, pictures of Jane filming with the chair were shared widely online as they shot scenes for the comedy drama series.

Production: Jane was spotted bringing the prop chair to set back in season one of the show 

Many questioned the odd prop and Jane offered an explanation on her website before the series aired.

She told fans: ‘This chair featuring Ryan Gosling’s face on the seat, figures amusingly in the first episode. 

‘Some paparazzi watching the shooting from a cliff across the street posted this photo and the chair sold out over night. Go Ryan!’
