Great cleavage divide – should stars like Holly Willoughby show off or cover up?

Holly Willoughby had Dancing On Ice viewers hot under the collar this week, while Susanna Reid got a few of the breakfast TV audience choking on their toast.

What had they done which was so remarkable? They flashed a little flesh – dividing opinions as they did so. While many said both women looked fantastic, others thought the outfits inappropriate, some even complaining to Ofcom about 39-year-old Holly.

Yesterday in response Susanna, 50, even joked on Good Morning Britain: “I’m fully covered up!”.

Sadly, they’re far from the first women to face criticism for the way they dress.

If the complaints made to Ofcom about Holly Willoughby’s Dancing On Ice dress were taken by a person, rather than a machine, the temptation to scream “GROW UP” before slamming the phone down must have been immense.

The next day, it was Susanna Reid getting flack for her rack.

The one piece of breaking news she’s guaranteed never to have had to announce is that women have breasts. Everyone knows that.

So why go so crazy over a bit of cleavage?

One argument appears to be that Susanna’s dress wasn’t appropriate for breakfast, and Holly’s wasn’t for teatime. Therefore, are we to assume that there’s a specific window – somewhere around noon, perhaps – when it’s fine?

Cover up by Siobhan McNally

There were three big boobies on GMB at 6.43am the other morning interviewing Priti Patel, and only one of them regularly makes a bit of a t*t of himself on telly.

The other two belonged to Susanna Reid – a woman of substance, intellect, education and a limitless wardrobe.

And no, I don’t mean Piers again.

If we truly want equality, then a heaving bosom has no place in the workplace, especially for women in the public eye like Susanna. Not least of all, because her GMB co-presenter could start demanding the right to flaunt his cleavage first thing in the morning – and then there’ll be two cracks at dawn.
