Manchester United are strongly linked with Mauricio Pochettino after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked on the weekend.

The current Paris Saint-Germain manager is said to be unhappy in the French capital, with his family still in the UK, and is ready to become the next United boss as soon as possible.

The feeling is mutual, with the Red Devils keen on hiring the Argentine, although appear to first want to hire an interim boss for the remainder of the campaign before making a full-time appointment at the end of the season.

United like the fact that Pochettino has a proven track record in the Premier League given his success at Tottenham.

And a glowing reference from Harry Kane, who worked with Pochettino for five years, tells them exactly what they can expect – a boss who instils confidence, leadership skills and who sets the standard.

Speaking about Pochettino earlier in 2021, Kane told Standard Sport: "We got so close to winning it [Champions League]. I would love to see him win it [with PSG last season].

"We had a great relationship. He is a great person, a great friend."

"He was the boss, the leader, the one that set the standards in how we played and how we trained. So friendship would never get in the way of what he did on the football side of things.

"But we became friends in that the things we did and talked about went beyond football."

In an interview with Gary Neville, Kane added: "[Pochettino] was the perfect guy for me to come into because we worked so hard, training was so tough. We did a lot of work in the gym.

"I was at a real development stage of my career. I was kind of just developing into my body and things like that and with that extra training, extra gym work kind of his guidance at that aspect. He gave me a lot of confidence."
