Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has appeared to suffer a broken leg in Liverpool's Premier League clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.

The 18-year-old was challenged by Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, who was sent off.

Teenager Elliott was making his third successive Premier League start for the Reds, and impressed this season in an attacking midfield role.

The challenge from behind by Struijk – who came on as a substitute in the first half of the match for the injured Diego Llorente – caused Liverpool's players to react in disbelief, with the stricken Elliott immediately receiving treatment as medical men ran on from the sidelines.

Gary Neville, commentating for Sky Sports, immediately said "Oh no!" following the injury, adding that it was "not a good one."

Liverpool were leading 2-0 at the time of the challenge thanks to goals from Mo Salah, his 100th in the Premier League, and Fabinho, with Sadio Mane adding a third late on – his 99th goal for the club.

Former Fulham youngster Elliott – who impressed on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season – is seen as an exciting talent by Liverpool, and has been tipped to play a key role for the first team in the current campaign.

Speaking last month after his first start of the season against Burnley, Klopp said: “Harvey since he is back again from loan again, since pre-season started, just shows up like a proper Liverpool player. That’s how it is.

“Yes, he is 18 years old; yes, there is still a lot to come. That’s all true, but there is already a lot there and I am really happy about that.

“We have more like these kind of private talks, the football talk is more in the sessions – what do we have to do?

“Everybody in this position should do that, where do you have to be in that moment. On top of that, there are no extra talks and all the rest is private.

“I am just happy to see him enjoying his time in the moment.”

A week later when Elliott faced Chelsea, Klopp said: “Harvey was from the first day of pre-season with us, pretty much the only midfielder we played so far [who that applies to] apart from Naby [Keita] and Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain].

“He looks fit obviously and can just deal with 95 minutes and that’s important for us. It was important today and that is why we started him and that’s why we left him on the pitch.”
