Adam Woodyatt has been given some words of advice from his EastEnders co-star ahead of his I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! stint.

The Ian Beale actor made his debut on the ITV series last night, alongside Coronation Street star Simon Gregson, and the pair were instantly thrown into camp life with a Bushtucker Trial.

Thankfully, close pal Shane Richie was more than willing to offer some helpful tips on life in Gwrych Castle after he took part in last year’s competition.

Appearing on today’s episode of Lorraine, he lifted the lid on their brief chats before Adam jetted to Wales – and what he warned his friend to steer clear of.

Recalling his own time on the show, the 57-year-old revealed that the soap star questioned what the ‘shrubbery’ is like in the vicinity of the camp.

‘He said: “Well, I’m thinking, if I gather up as many nettles as possible, I can make a cup of tea”,’ Shane explained, before laughing about how familiar the plan sounded.

‘What I had to tell him [was], when I went in the castle last year, I did exactly the same.

‘I had this notion in my head because it was the first time in the castle, I remember getting in there and wandering around on my own, just pulling up little plants. I smelled them, looking for nettles.

‘I got this whole arm full of nettles and I’m about to walk back into the castle where Giovanna has got a kettle boiling, and I got called to the Telegraph.

‘They said: “Mr Richie, can you sit down? What are you doing?” I’ve got all these nettles and said: “Nothing, why?” They said: “No really, what are you doing?”’

After some back and forth, Shane was forced to admit that he was ‘hoping to make a cup of tea out of nettles’, when he was warned to put them down.

Asking why he had to disregard his precious plants, he was told: ‘They’ve all been sprayed with insecticide.

‘So I had to warn [Adam], so he knows not to do that!’

That’s probably the best advice he’s received so far.

Adam finally agreed to take on I’m A Celeb amid his year-long break from the BBC.

He has been on our screens as Albert Square’s hapless business mogul for more than three decades – and is hoping to show viewers more of the real him instead of his Ian Beale persona.

‘Why have I finally said yes? Because I am not in EastEnders! That is the honest answer,’ he said ahead of his stint.

‘I am not in contract with the BBC so I can come and do it. Everyone thinks I am Ian Beale and so it’s going to be great to show I am not.’

Just stay away from the nettles, Adam!

Lorraine continues on weekday mornings at 9am on ITV.
