Some things about TV presenter Richard Madeley have hardly changed at all.

.

As the daytime presenter settles into castle life, his son Jack posted these throwback shots of a young Richard.

Millions of fans fully expect to crack up at the star as he makes a twit of himself.

But his daughter Chloe has started early after seeing the pictures of him in flares. She wrote on Instagram : “I can’t look at this without laughing.”

Former I’m A Celebrity winner Scarlett Moffatt was more complimentary, saying: “He hasn’t aged in 40 years.”

Richard, now 65, still has the same long hair and youthful grin from decades before.

Jack wrote: “Lots of lovely comments about how well Richard is looking in the castle, but do you think he could still rock a pair of flares?”

Looking back to his youth, he reminisced in a 2018 newspaper article: “We jived to The Beatles, Stones and Hendrix but we snogged to The Moody Blues. But there was so much more involved.

“Tribal costume, for starters… the label was crucial. It had to be a Ben Sherman button-down, teamed with crotch-hugging black flared Levis. An acceptable second choice was a cheesecloth shirt, worn so tight across the chest and stomach that the buttons strained against the eyes, tucked into a broad leather-belted pair of faded blue jeans (Levis again, natch).”

One other shot shows Richard dressed in a beige roll neck jumper and black leather biker jacket. It looks to have been taken a few years after he began a band called Alchemy with his friend Paul, which did not last long following a gig in a youth hostel.

A third photo focused on his grinning smile and had the comment: “When you spot your harmonious chorus of joy coming towards your table from the kitchen.”

Jack added a cake emoji, possibly referring to his dad and Arlene Phillips winning a cake for The Clink camp.

Under both photos were dozens of messages of support for him, with people backing him to be king of the castle.

In a podcast, Scarlett said: “This is not me saying he is a vampire but I always think Richard Madeley is somehow drinking from the fountain of youth. Because that man has not aged in, like, 40 years,”

Some of Richard’s youthful experiences holidaying at his grandparent’s Shropshire farm may help him on I’m A Celeb.

He said: “They didn’t get full electricity until the late 60s.

“They didn’t have an indoor toilet till I was about nine or 10.

“They had a dunny. It was known in the family as the gloryhole. It was basically a wooden shack in the orchards behind the farmhouse.

“You went in and there was a wooden seat with a hole in it, worn smooth by my grandmother’s cheeks.

“And, yeah, you sat on that and you did your business.”

Madeley now fronts ITV ’s Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid.

Wife and mum-of-four Judy, 73, left, who he presented with on ITV and Channel 4 for 21 years, now spends time out of the spotlight and is a published author.
