Emmerdale fans have been calling for the return of Joe Tate, played by Ned Porteous since he left the ITV soap in 2018 when he became a fan favourite.

After leaving the popular soap he went to the United States to carve out a career there, and has also been on a well earned holiday.

Ned definitely had some success after leaving Emmerdale, and continued to appear in TV shows and films. He even landed himself a role in hit Netflix drama Bridgerton in 2020.

Before this he starred in Emmerdale between 207 and 2018, taking on the role of Joe Tate, Debbie Dingle's game playing boyfriend, but some fans think that he could be making an explosive return to the soap.

Here is a closer look at what Ned's been up to since leaving Emmerdale.

Ned Ned Porteous' acting career

Ned Porteous appeared in Emmerdale between 2017-2018

Before his Emmerdale role, Ned landed himself a regular place in EastEnders in 2016.

He played Mark Fowler Jr, who was known for wearing a trademark leather jacket and a quiff as well as getting involved in storylines like the kidnap of Ben Mitchell and Jay Brown.

Mark eventually worked out that he was Grant's son and then decided to leave Walford to move to America, like Ned did in real life.

Ned appeared in 13 episodes of the programme. Before this in 2015 he was in one episode of Holby City where he appeared as Rufus Lucas in the BBC drama.

Despite being loved up in 2019 with Lucy Heath, it now seems that Ned is single but he lives with his cute cat named Dave.

The actor was previously in a relationship with the American actress and a source told The Sun in 2019: "It’s early days but Ned is really enjoying dating Lucy. They have both been in America recently looking for work and grew really close.

"Ned usually likes to keep his love life private but has been taking Lucy to various events both in London and LA.

"They have loads in common with their acting work and make a great looking couple – it’s just Ned’s fans who are gutted!"

Ned often posts photos of his cat, even celebrating his first birthday by sharing a snap on Instagram.

He shared a selfie with his head resting on Dave which he captioned: "Hey guys Dave turned 1 the other day, wish him happy birthday plz x #catbirthday #unemployed"

However, it seems that Ned has now made a come back to the UK as he has posted snaps to his social media while in London and Snowdonia.
