Jose Mourinho believes that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is "happy" that Gareth Bale has finally left the club to join Tottenham.

The Welsh forward completed a stunning return to his former club in a season-long loan move last week, and the deal could become a permanent one next summer.

Bale had been effectively frozen out of the Madrid team towards the end of last season, with his relationship with Zidane said to have been at an all-time low.

And speaking ahead of Spurs' Europa League tie against Macedonian side Shkendija, Mourinho said he thinks the move is a satisfactory one for everyone.

"I didn't speak with Zinedine, but I believe that Zinedine is happy that he (Bale) left," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"We are happy that he is here. Gareth, of course, is happy to be here. So hopefully at the end of the season we are all happy and he can stay with us."

It is not yet clear exactly when Bale will be able to make his debut for Spurs due to the fact he was carrying a knock when he signed.

But Mourinho believes the 31-year-old has already shown great signs of desire through his work with Spurs' backroom staff, and could be available for selection in the near future.

"Happiness is very important in life and is very important in football," he added. "I feel that with myself, with my own experience. You have to be happy to be, let's say, performing.

"So of course he is not ready to play, it will take a little bit, but the way he is working with medicals, the way he is working with sports scientists, makes me believe that when we have him, we will have the player that he is."
