Katherine Heigl honors her late hairstylist David Babaii with a thoughtful tribute and grant program

Katherine Heigl is mourning the sudden loss of her hairstylist David Babaii. 

The 42-year-old actress took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a thoughtful tribute with her 4 million followers.

‘My friend and most beloved hairstylist passed. Recently. Suddenly. Inexplicably,’ she wrote in a caption underneath a set of photos.

The ten-photo slide included three images of Heigl and Babaii, and others from occasions when he styled the star’s hair. 

‘I’m having a hard time imagining this world without David. He was a small guy (he’d be the first to tell you!) but the biggest personality and heart in the business. His talent was legendary,’ the former Grey’s Anatomy star shared.

Reflecting on the hair professional’s life she recalled, ‘David could turn even the limpest locks into the silken tresses of shampoo commercial dreams. He could make you laugh with nothing more than a look and a raised eyebrow.

‘He could lighten your load with an effusive outpouring of love and support. He could make you feel like the most beautiful woman in the world armed with nothing more than a hairbrush some hairspray and his overflowing heart.’

The Knocked Up actress added, ‘It’s hard to know what to do when someone you love passes. How to honor them and what they meant to you. How to say goodbye until we meet again.’

Ultimately Katherine decided to honor her friend by establishing a grant program in celebration of his life. 

‘My mother Nancy and I decided to begin a grant program in his honor. The @jasonheiglfoundation will establish “David’s Grant” to help small, rural, struggling shelters, to fund spay/neuter and vaccine programs with the goal of getting as many animals adopted as possible,’ the Washington, D.C.-born star wrote before noting that ‘The first grant awarded will go to the Lenoir County SPCA.’

The mother-of-three finished up her post stating, ‘David will be deeply missed…he is deeply missed and though he needs no help from me in leaving a legacy of greatness behind, I’d like to add a little something to that great legacy and do something for companion animals in his honor and in his name.

‘David was a true and loyal champion for the pets of our world and this grant is for him.’

The loss comes nearly two weeks after the entertainer took appeared on Instagram to urger her followers to become organ donors.

The public plea was inspired by the anniversary of her brother’s death in the mid 1980s.
