Liverpool have a number of players struggling with injuries at the moment and defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term absentees.
Despite the injuries, their on-field results have not been majorly affected, with the Reds second in the Premier League on goal difference having lost just once.
They also secured qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League with an important 1-0 win over Ajax on Tuesday.
However, with the January transfer window approaching, Jurgen Klopp’s side have unsurprisingly been linked with a number of potential defensive recruits.
Let’s see what the latest Liverpool transfer gossip has to say about it.

Reds urged to sign Koulibaly in January

With Van Dijk and Gomez out of action for the foreseeable future, Liverpool legend John Barnes believes the Reds should sign Kalidou Koulibaly in January, telling BonusCodeBets: "If Koulibaly comes, he’s a player that could play alongside Van Dijk when he returns.
"So it would be easy to talk Koulibaly into joining Liverpool, unlike some other top players because he’s a person that if he comes would go straight into the first team and play every match.
"Aside from Koulibaly, I don’t think there’s anyone out there that Liverpool would look to get in January. If Liverpool are unable to get anyone to improve the first team, then why sign a new player?
"January is not always the best time to buy because all of the top players you want to come into your team are going to be in the Champions League still so it might be hard to convince them to come if they’re not going to be playing every week.
"If Liverpool are desperate and need somebody, they’ll get them in."

Former Real Madrid defender Ezequiel Garay has been offered to Liverpool as a potential stop-gap solution to their injury problems, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
The 34-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Valencia when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury to his right knee back in February.
The report also claims that Liverpool could face competition from Barcelona, with Ronald Koeman's side facing defensive problems of their own.
He was forced to play youngster Oscar Mingueza in their last two games, with Clement Lenglet the only fit senior centre-back for their recent league win over Osasuna.

It's been an extremely interesting start to the season for Jurgen Klopp's men.
They got their title defence off to a shaky start as they edged out a seven-goal thriller against Leeds, before going on to conceded seven in a hammering by Aston Villa.
Virgil van Dijk's season was ended by injury in the 2-2 draw at Everton, leaving the title favourites looking far less secure at the back – especially with Alisson's injury worries too.
But there's no slowing down in what is going to be a busy campaign – with Klopp ensuring his men continue at full pace as they bid for more title glory.

Liverpool to back out of Mendes deal
Liverpool could back out of a move for Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes, claim Portuguese publication A Bola.
Sporting are attempting to convince Mendes to sign a new contract which would include a much higher release clause.
The current clause is said to be €45m (£40.5m) and Liverpool would be unwilling to pay more than that price to bring Mendes to Anfield.
As a result, negotiations over the new deal are 'behind schedule', with Liverpool's interest making things difficult for Sporting.
