Love Island Australia star suffers meltdown after social media follower calls her ‘an inspiration’

She’s no stranger to stripping down into her bikini on social media.

But on Monday night former Love Island Australia star Cassidy McGill broke down into tears after a follower messaged her to say thank you for giving them confidence.

Responding to a bikini-clad photo of the 27-year-old, the fan wrote: ‘We kind of have the same body type and I’m always insecure of my body.

‘It’s really hurtful’: Love Island star Cassidy McGill, 27, (pictured) has had a meltdown after a fan messaged her to say thank you for giving them confidence after sharing a bikini photo

‘You being confident with your own body kind of gives me the confidence too. You’re an inspiration.’

Cassidy explained that she took offence to the message.

‘In these stories I said nothing or drew no attention to my “confidence” by being in a bikini in front of you guys,’ she wrote in her rant.

Not happy: Cassidy explained that she took offence to the message

‘Reading this makes me think “well if you’re insecure and we’ve got the same body type, then I have something to be insecure about?” Because otherwise you’d love your body too?’

‘Calling me confident for showing my body isn’t a compliment, it portrays the idea I’m doing something brave? I’m having a hard time trying to explain how this upsets me, but it does.’

Cassidy then shared a video of herself crying and said she would rather people didn’t reach out to her to tell her she inspires them with body confidence.

Back in December 2020, Cassidy said her experience with trolls made her become excessive about diet and exercise, and as a result she dropped from a size 10 to a size six.

But despite drastically slimming down, she still found herself being body shamed online – and this taught her an ‘earth-shattering lesson’.

‘On Love Island I was labelled the plus-size girl (by the public). I was a size 10… This rocked me to my core,’ Cassidy explained.
