Manchester United: Ex-Red Devil Michael Carrick wanted by League One Lincoln as their new manager

Michael Carrick is a shock contender for the vacant head coach’s job at League One club Lincoln City.

The former Manchester United midfielder is looking for his first full-time managerial job and is emerging as a candidate for the role at Sincil Bank.

Carrick has coached extensively at Old Trafford – and was part of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom team.

He was United’s caretaker boss for three games earlier this season after Solskjaer’s sacking.

However, the former 34-cap England international left after Ralf Rangnick was appointed as the club’s interim head coach.

Carrick, 40, is believed to be considering the Lincoln job but is undecided so far.

The Imps finished 17th in League One, 12 points clear of the relegation zone and 31 points off the play-off positions.

Carrick was renowned as being an intelligent and technically gifted footballer across a distinguished career and made 464 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 24 goals.
