MasterChef Australia finale dominates the ratings

The Celebrity MasterChef finale has been a lifesaver for Channel 10 after recording stellar TV ratings on Monday night.

The finale had former AFL star Nick Riewoldt come out victorious after a tight head-to-head competition between the St Kilda great, fashion designer Collette Dinnigan, and TV presenter and daughter to Gordon Ramsey, Tilly Ramsey. 

MasterChef took in 700,000 viewers in the metro city areas before shooting up to a peak of 805,000 during the announcement of the winner.

Celebrity MasterChef became the flagship program for the 10 network on Monday after the show struggled to gain an audience throughout its run.

The reality TV cooking series come out on top in the TV ratings and beat all competing non-news programs across all the free-to-air stations. 

The episode also placed first in all key demographics including the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 age groups.

MasterChef’s free-to-air competitors were few and far between.

Nine’s A Current Affair nipped at the heels of the series with 671,000 viewers, while the ABC followed with decent figures for 7:30 and Australian Story.

Seven’s Home and Away placed after MasterChef as the main non-news or documentary show, taking in 512,000 viewers. 

That result was followed by The Chase Australia with 498,000.

Even though 10 had resounding success with the MasterChef finale, the network still recorded poor to middling results for the remainder of the night, with only The Project hitting the top 20 shows in the overnight metro ratings.

It translated to 10 taking in an overall audience share of 23%.

That was behind the Nine network in first place with 26.3% and Seven with 24%.
