Michael B. Jordan is ‘grateful’ his Without Remorse castmate Lauren London opened up about her experience with ‘grief’ while filming the Tom Clancy adaptation.
The Creed actor, 34, shed light on the ’emotional’ the filming process during an appearance on the Jemele Hill Is Unbothered podcast on Monday, telling Hill about the insight London offered, given her experience losing fiancé Nipsey Hussle to gun violence in March 2019.
‘Her sharing her experience with me and having pretty lengthy conversations about grief and suffering and what that looks and feels like really helped me get to a certain place as [his] character,’ who is a widower.

Real-life grief and suffering: Hussle (born Ermias Joseph Asghedom), 33, was shot and killed in the parking lot of his store, Marathon Clothing, in the afternoon on March 31, 2019; the couple are seen in February 2019, seven weeks before his murder
Heading into production, Jordan had been worried the storyline would hit too close to home for London, who plays the slain pregnant wife of Jordan’s character John Kelly, an elite Navy Seal who goes on to try and avenge her death.
‘I think we wanted to be aware and sensitive with that and how we shot some of those scenes,’ he explained.
But in the end, it was the grieving London who wound up being the inspiration that Jordan needed to do the character justice and deliver a powerhouse performance.

‘She was really transparent about [grief], and I was extremely grateful for that,’ he said. ‘She’s very talented and has so much to give.’
‘Wanting this to be a little therapeutic note for her as an artist is sometimes our space to vent and express ourselves in a certain type of way, and she felt like it was time for her to do that.
‘So, I just kind of lined up where she was in her life and this project.’
The shoot for the film kicked off in October 2019, but it was interrupted and temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with Jordan and London, the cast also includes Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Brett Gelman, Jacob Scipio, Jack Kesy, Colman Domingo, and Guy Pearce, among others.
