The former AS Roma player is believed to be happy to sign on the dotted line with Jurgen Klopp’s men, but it would still take his side to hand out their most expensive ever contract to keep him at Anfield.

Reports did emerge that Salah could be asking for up to £500,000-per-week, surpassing their current biggest earner, Virgil van Dijk, currently on a £220,000-a-week deal, by some margin.

Following Liverpool’s exquisite 5-0 thrashing of Watford at Vicarage Road over the weekend, a game in which Salah made a world-class assist and scored a world-class goal, Klopp hailed the 29-year-old as the ‘best in the world’.

“He is for sure one of the best in the world right now,” said the Reds boss via the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s not about me to say who is the best. But for me he is the best.

“I see him every day and that makes it maybe more easy for me. But there is Lewandowski out there and people like that, Ronaldo still scoring like crazy, Messi still pulling out performances to a world-class level.

“And others will come. But in this moment, for sure he is on top of that list.”
