Newcastle also remain keen on a loan for Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe and are in talks to sell Yoshinori Muto, with interest in the striker from Greek club Aris Thessaloniki.
Tunazebe played under Bruce during two separate loan spells with Aston Villa in 2018 and 2019.
The 23-year-old was on the periphary of United’s first-team squad last season, with just four starts in the Premier League and a further five in all comeptitions.
Bruce reiterated his desire to bring in new players last week and said the club would keep working on a deal for Willock to return. The midfielder scored eight goals in 14 games for the Magpies last season.
‘Of course we want him back, he did great with us and gives us another dimension in midfield that we haven’t got,’ Bruce said after his side beat Doncaster Rovers 3-2 in a friendly last Friday.
‘We’ll keep bashing away at it.’
