Newcastle United begin their pre-season schedule this weekend with a double-header.

Steve Bruce will be looking to build on a hugely impressive end to last season. Despite struggling through the winter, the Magpies enjoyed a fine spring and ended up finishing 12th in the top flight.

Their points tally of 45 was their joint-best since returning to the Premier League in 2017.

Bruce's side begin the new campaign at home to West Ham on Sunday, August 15. Before then they have a busy pre-season to contend with.

Here is all the information you need to tune into their first friendlies of the summer.

Who are they playing?

Newcastle have lined up two matches today. They will be sending a side to League Two Harrogate and another team to non-league York City.

The fixture with Harrogate takes place at The EnviroVent Stadium whilst the meeting with York sees the Magpies make a first-ever visit to the plush new LNER Community Stadium.

York have sold their allocation of 2,000 tickets for the match.

Both games are on Sunday, July 18 with kick-off at 2pm.

Where to watch

Newcastle are streaming the game at York for free on their YouTube channel and through NUFC TV .

However, the Harrogate clash will cost fans £10 to watch through the League Two's side website.

No match odds were available at the time of publication, as is usually the case with friendly games.

Team news

Bruce should have a strong pool of players to choose from.

Only Fabian Schar, Miguel Almiron and Emil Krafth were involved in the Euros or Copa America, whilst there is uncertainty over whether Andy Carroll has been kept on after his contract expired.

The likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson should feature.

Callum Wilson is set for a run-out

Harrogate are likely to give outings to new signings Lewis Page and Nathan Sheron.

As for York, they are managed by ex-Toon favourite Steve Watson. He has added an old York boy in Clayton Donaldson to the ranks and the forward should get an outing against United.
