The Serie A giants are back in Europe’s biggest competition for the first time since the 2013-14 season following their second place finish in the league last campaign.

Both games against Liverpool promise to be spectacles due to their history with the Premier League side.

Liverpool came from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan on penalties in the final of the competition in 2005.

AC Milan then won their last Champions League in 2007 with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool to exact their revenge.

Both sides are part of a very tough group which include La Liga champions Atletico Madrid and two time Champions League winners FC Porto.

Giroud joined AC Milan on a two-year deal in the summer following a three and a half year spell at Chelsea.

The veteran striker has started twice for the Rossoneri, scoring a brace in their 4-1 thrashing of Cagliari.

He faces tough competition for a starting place at the Italian giants in the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 39-year-old Swedish striker picked up a knee injury at the end of last season and is closing in on a return to action.

The two sides have shared victories in Champions League finals in 2005 and 2007 respectively
