Unsurprisingly, the majority of the Liverpool transfer talk concerns the future of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with an Anfield switch, having failed to sign a new contract with Bayern, and is now free of European distractions after helping his club win their first European trophy since he arrived from Barcelona in 2013.

Liverpool have been busy getting their preparations for the new campaign underway, with goals from Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Rhian Brewster giving them a 3-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart in Austria.

But they have not added extensively to a squad which won last season’s Premier League by a hefty margin.

Kostas Tsimikas is the only senior arrival so far this summer, but we have the latest on further potential additions to Jurgen Klopp’s squad as they begin to mount a title defence.

Bayern boss provides update on Thiago future after Champions League win

Liverpool target Thiago was influential as Bayern beat Paris Saint-Germain to win the Champions League for the first time in seven years.

The former Barcelona midfielder was trusted by Hansi Flick once more, and played his part in Kingsley Coman’s goal that gave the German champions victory in Lisbon.

After the game, Flick was asked about Thiago’s future and – after initially joking that the 29-year-old had told him he was staying – gave a clearer indication of what awaits the Reds target.

"I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did with every other player,” Flick said, per Sky Sports.

"I don't know and he doesn't know yet either [where his future lies], because we all focused on this Champions League final.

"I think we will have to wait what the following days will bring."

Former Liverpool midfielder expects Thiago deal to go through

Former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann would be surprised if a deal for Thiago wasn’t completed.

The Spain star has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, but any deal was put on hold until after Bayern finished their Champions League campaign.

“I'd be very surprised if he turns down a contract for Bayern Munich if he hasn't got anything else, so I am sure he's got an offer from Liverpool now. It is probably about the transfer fee now,” Hamann told talkSPORT.

“He's a brilliant footballer as we know so I think he can give a different and a new dimension to Liverpool's midfield. I would be surprised if he doesn't end up in Liverpool."

The 29-year-old, who started every one of Bayern’s Champions League knockout games, is out of contract at the Bundesliga champions in 2021.

He made his 150th league appearance for the club this season, having joined from Barcelona in 2013.

Reds weighing up move for free agent goalkeeper during Austria tour

Liverpool played their first pre-season friendly over the weekend, beating VfB Stuttgart in Austria, and their European training camp has seen a couple of new faces involved.

Summer signing Kostas Tsimikas is one, and the left-back featured in the victory over the German side, but Spanish goalkeeper Javi Cendon has also been spotted in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The 19-year-old didn’t play in the friendly, but the Liverpool ECHO reports he has been training with the first team as Klopp and his staff run the rule over the teenager.

Cendon is a free agent after being released by Villarreal, and the report claims he will train with the first team back at Melwood after catching the eye of coaches, with a decision to be made after the squad returns to English soil.

Three of Liverpool’s young goalkeepers left Anfield over the summer, with Kai McKenzie-Lyle, Daniel Atherton and Shamal George all moving to pastures new.

Liverpool face RB Salzburg in their second friendly of pre-season after a convincing victory over Stuttgart on Saturday.

Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Rhian Brewster were on the scoresheet as the Reds beat the German side 3-0 on their return to action.

Jurgen Klopp's men now ramp up their preparations for the 2020/21 campaign with a match against the Austrian champions, who they faced in Champions League competition last season.

In the group-stage clashes, Liverpool won 4-3 in an exhilarating fixture at Anfield last October before winning 2-0 at Red Bull Arena Salzburg two months later.

Klopp will hope for another positive result against Salzburg as his side prepare for their Community Shield showdown with Arsenal at the end of the month.

Defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and winger Harry Wilson will miss the fixture but are expected to return to fitness soon, while captain Jordan Henderson and centre-back Joel Matip hope to be fit for the Premier League's start next month.

Elsewhere, Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a long-term absentee after picking up an injury during pre-season training and youngster Ki-Jana Hoever is a doubt.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland, Minamino and Hwang Hee-chan have all departed Salzburg in 2020 but manager Jesse Marsch has strengthened his options by recruiting promising forward Federico Crescenti and defender Oumar Solet.
