Pep Guardiola's comments on Thiago Alcantara tell Liverpool fans everything they need to know – and send a warning to the rest of the league.

"He has so much quality, above all his mentality," Guardiola once said of the Spaniard.

"He always thinks that everything is possible. He has no fear."

A ringing endorsement from one of the world's best managers – a man who's job it is to try and stop Thiago in his tracks this season.

Guardiola worked with Thiago at Barcelona when he was much younger and behind Sergio Busquets in the midfield hierarchy at the Camp Nou.

But the Manchester City boss could see he possessed a lot of class and wasted no time snapping him up as soon as he moved to Bayern Munich.

The German giants parted with £23million to make the transfer happen in 2013, and enjoyed seven years with the Spaniard, who won the Bundesliga in every single campaign and the Champions League last season.

Jurgen Klopp, like Guardiola, has long been a fan of Thiago, and made signing him a priority this summer despite Liverpool's financial woes.

Upon getting the deal over the line, Klopp announced: "I'm really happy that it finally worked out and we could just do it. It's very exceptional because in our situation, a lot of people around us talk constantly – 'What are you doing?' – bam, bam, bam.

"Then preparing something like this, working on all different things you have to work in a transfer like this – with thinking about a player like him already is a joy, to be honest, because it gives us obviously some options.

"Then you get in contact with the boy and then you realise, OK, he obviously likes this project as well pretty much, even before he is here, which was really nice.

"I learned more and more about him as a person; the player I knew before, the person I learned.

"So I'm really happy to bring this wonderful person in as an add-on to the squad, which is just good for football reasons – but for all the other reasons as well. So, yeah, absolutely happy that he's here."
