American rapper Kid Cudi has honoured his late bulldog, Freshie, with a permanent reminder of his "guardian angel".

The Day ‘N’ Nite artist visited LA celebrity tattoo artist Dr Woo to get two portraits of the pup etched on his skin.

The tattoo artist – who has inked the likes of Miley Cyrus and Drake – shared a photo of the tattoos on Kid Cudi’s thigh and hand, captioned ‘Freshie 4 ever’.

It comes just weeks after the rapper made the announcement that his "best friend" had passed away on Instagram, on August 24.

He shared a picture of the wrinkly bulldog, who he’s owned for over a decade, and described how he felt "his last breath".

The 37-year-old said: “I got some sad news y'all. Freshie is gone. He left us a few days ago peacefully at home surrounded by people that love him. His family.

“I held his hand and whispered in his ear to let him know I was there while he slipped away. I told him he was a special boy, my best friend, that he was perfect and that I loved him and I’ll miss him so, so much. I felt his heart stop beating and felt his last breath.”

Kid Cudi – who’s real name is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi – has owned Freshie since 2010. He got the bulldog when the producers of ‘How To Make It In America’ told him his character for the second season would "sell weed and walk dogs".

He added: “I had no previous interactions with dogs prior, other than giving one a pet if my friends had one at their place. I was truly nervous around dogs and I wanted to be comfortable on set with them so it felt legit.

“After I got Freshie, I was wayyy more comfortable with the dogs on set. It worked. But at the time I had no idea I would have such a best friend in my life.”

The rapper revealed that Freshie helped him cope with depression.

He added: “Freshie was with me through it all everyday. He loved me. He really did. He came up and licked me if I was crying, he loved to lay in bed with me, he was always by my side or close by. He was my guardian angel. I’ll miss you everyday for as long as I live.

“I love you forever Mr Freshly. Til we meet on the other side my beautiful special boy.”
