Ray J is released from the hospital following more than a week battling pneumonia

Ray J is back on the outside and breathing easy after recovering from a serious bout with pneumonia.

The 40-year-old singer was released from a Miami-area hospital this past weekend, TMZ reported on Wednesday.

The singer, who dated Kim Kardashian years before she eclipsed his fame, revealed to the publication earlier this month that he had been erroneously placed in the hospital’s Covid-19 ward after doctors initially assumed he was positive for the disease.

Sources close to the singer now say he’s able to get around without the need for supplemental oxygen, which he apparently needed while he was hospitalized.

He’s also been able to stop using an inhaler, though it’s unclear if he previously used one prior to his health scare.

They added that the reality star thinks his ‘busy schedule and constant travel’ might have put him at risk for pneumonia, and now he’ll be more attentive to his health needs.

Those close to Ray previously said he worried he might be on death’s doorstep during his frightening hospital stay.

Things might have been even worse for him, as his time in close proximity to patients with Covid-19 could have significantly increased his risk of contracting the virus, which could have been deadly considering how his lungs were already compromised by pneumonia.

Back to normal: Ray is now off supplemental oxygen and doesn’t require an inhaler anymore. However, sources close to him say he’s still planning to divorce his wife Princess Love; seen in 2019 in Atlanta

Ray J’s recovery doesn’t seem to have impacted his decision to file for divorce from his wife Princess Love, making it their third filing to date.

Shortly after the news of her estranged husband’s hospitalization, she told TMZ that she had ‘never been better’ after she and the couple’s two children touched down at LAX airport.

At the time, she said her soon-to-be ex was ‘alive and well and he’s… he’s very near.’

According to those close to the singer, his desire to divorce Princess Love wasn’t related to his time in the hospital, and his recovery hasn’t changed his plans to end their marriage.

It was previously reported by TMZ that Ray J — real name Ray Norwood — was not in great health and was struggling to breathe while battling the respiratory infection in a Miami hospital.

His manager David Weintraub told the publication that the One Wish hitmaker was admitted into the hospital earlier this month as doctors learned that he was battling pneumonia.

The Tie Me Down hitmaker also spoke with TMZ directly as the publication reported that the star was still suffering heavily from the effects of the illness.

Ray told the publication that physicians had assumed he had COVID-19 upon his arrival so they placed him in the COVID wing of the hospital which the star said was terrifying.

The singer explained: ‘I thought it was over. I started praying and knew God is good so I just kept praying.’

The younger brother of pop singer Brandy said that he was given five tests for COVID-19 which all came back negative and ended up being moved out of the COVID-19 wing after two days.

Ray J said that he is currently receiving oxygen and still has difficulty when it comes to breathing or talking.

He also told the publication that when he wakes up at 6am he feels like he is healthy enough to go home but by 6:30am things begin to deteriorate and that’s when he fears the most.

The singer told TMZ that what is helping him motivate himself to keep improving his health is seeing his kids whom he shares with with wife Princess Love: three-year-old daughter Melody and one-year-old son Epik.

His manager Weintraub says his client will hopefully be out by the end of the week.

Ray J dated Kim Kardashian before she was famous on and off from 2002 to 2006 and last month he slammed his former manager, Wack 100, for claiming there was a second sex tape with his ex.

Wack — who’s full name is Cash Jones — revealed on a podcast last week that he had ‘more graphic’ footage of the exes together, which he was willing to release to Ray or Kim’s estranged husband, Kanye West.

‘This ain’t cool – I been staying off the Raydar – Just staying focused and being humble and thankful for all the blessings I’m receiving,’ Ray responded on Instagram. ‘How can I show growth and maturity if this kinda of stuff keeps happening?’

He added: ‘I’m a father now and my job is to be a great parent and put them first. This is not the message I want to send out – smh.’

‘Unequivocally false’: Kardashian’s lawyer denied the existence of an unreleased sex tape after Wack 100 claimed to possess graphic video of the reality star with her ex-boyfriend Ray J; pictured 2006

The previous week, Kim’s lawyer, Marty Singer denied the existence of an unreleased sex tape to follow up the first film which made her a household name.

‘The claim that there is an unreleased sex tape is unequivocally false,’ he told TMZ. ‘It is unfortunate that people make these statements to try and get their 15 minutes of fame.’

Ray J’s former manager claimed to have an unreleased second part of Kim’s tape during a recent appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast.

Wack claimed to have ‘part two on a laptop’ that was ‘more graphic and better than the first one’ and said he would only give the never-before-seen video to her estranged husband Kanye West.

‘It’s the mother of his children,’ he explained.

Kim filmed a sex tape in 2002 with her then-boyfriend Ray J, which was released into the public domain in 2007, just as Kim and her family were getting ready to launch the first series of their E! reality show.

Kim famously spoke about the tape during an early episode of the series when her sister Kourtney Kardashian asked her why she agreed to film the video, and she said: ‘Because I was horny and I felt like it.’

Recently the reality star admitted discussing the tape in the first season of the show helped her ‘deal’ with her emotions.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the reality star admitted talking about difficult events on the show helped her process events in her life.

‘I do think that, obviously, as producers, I’m sure they loved it. And loved [us] wanting to talk about the elephant in the room. And I probably wouldn’t have, unless it was for the show.

‘Sometimes I feel like, “OK, I know I should probably deal and get this over with. Someone’s gonna ask me, so I might as well just go ahead and do it.”

‘In a way, filming has helped us deal with things, instead of sweeping them under the rug. At the end of the day, I was always open and honest and wanted to share whatever I was going through. I wasn’t gonna hold back.’
