Real Housewives Of New York star Eboni K. Williams’ license to practice law in the state of North Carolina has been suspended for some time, according to the reality star.
The 37-year-old media figure released a statement on Monday, explaining that she has not ‘lived or practiced law in North Carolina since 2011’ and had her license suspended because she ‘stopped paying the annual fees.’
She is not licensed to practice in any other states.
Despite this, the former Fox News host has referred to herself as a lawyer extensively in the past.
Suspension: Real Housewives Of New York star Eboni K. Williams, 37, had her North Carolina law license suspended
The cause of the suspension was reportedly the result of unpaid dues, rather than a punishment for misconduct, making it ‘administrative, and not disciplinary.’
Calling media reports of the matter ‘a desperate attempt to discredit me,’ Eboni explained the situation in an Instagram Live.
‘When I decided to move to New York to be full time in media in broadcast, which is my life’s work and I’m so blessed to do it full time and make a wonderful living doing it finally, yes, I had no desire to reactive my North Carolina bar license.’
‘It really makes no sense for attorneys who aren’t practicing law [to maintain an active law license.]
‘I love the law. I loved my career as an attorney. I loved practicing law. I no longer practice law. I’ve not practiced law in a full time capacity in the state of North Carolina since 2011 and thus I have chosen voluntarily not to pay those assessments.’
Williams started her career as a public defender but then changed careers, pursuing work in news and TV.
Following her time as a Fox News co-host, she briefly co-anchored a show on WABC Radio and co-hosted the late-night talk show State Of The Culture for Revolt TV.

Not worth it: The former Fox News host said in a statement that she had stopped paying dues when she moved away from North Carolina, as she has no plans to practice there again
In 2020, the former public defender made history as the first Black cast member on The Real Housewives Of New York, starting with the series’ 13th season.
DailyMail.com reported exclusively last week that a planned season 14 reunion episode taping had been delayed amid plummeting ratings for the show.
‘All hell is breaking loose behind the scenes at the Real Housewives Of New York,’ an insider said. ‘While the cameras are down, the drama is continuing.’
In hopes of airing later when there may be more interest in the reunion, the taping was moved back from August until an undetermined date in September.
The cast were also informally told that taping would be delayed until early 2022, rather than later this year as previously planned.
The insider continued: ‘The cast is completely divided and the women are not getting along with each other.
‘Filming ended with all of the women as friends, but as soon as the show started airing, Eboni K. Williams went to war against her cast mates — particularly Ramona [Singer] and Luann [de Lesseps] and the audience is switching off week after week.’

Last week, the series marked it lowest-rated episode since the started of the series with a paltry 764K live viewers.
According to the source, fans of the show didn’t care for its focus on social issues and only wanted escapist fare.
‘Our viewers don’t want to be lectured to. They want a fun show — tipsy, middle aged women with money fighting about petty stuff. Yes — let’s talk about the important issues facing our nation — but this cannot be the center of our show.
‘It’s not what our show is, but week after week, scene after scene, everyone is being schooled by a former Fox News host.’
Williams’ costar Singer even went as far as to ‘negotiate terms’ with producers for the September reunion to ensure that she wouldn’t be called a ‘bigot’ by Williams, TMZ reported over the weekend.
