What some fans may not know is Pat’s father Tom was not around to witness his success, as died suddenly from a heart attack when he was just eight years old.
Tom died of a heart attack in his mid 40s, leaving Pat's mother to rear four children and run the family pub alone, while Pat stepped up to become the “father figure” of the family to his three younger siblings.
"But my mother was unbelievable; the bar work was 14 hours a day, 363 days a year".
"Everything she did in her life was for us. It was work, work, work and she never took a holiday."
Pat’s mother later passed away in her mid-80s in 2012, but the pundit remains a self-confessed “Mammy’s boy” despite being married to his wife Rosarii for 33 years and having three children Cara, Shona and Pat.
Speaking on the Late Late show last year, Pat said: "Sometimes my poor long suffering wife, who will be my wife 32 years next month, will say to me every now and again, 'I have only married your mother' and she is probably half right."
"We are together 32 years and I am a Mammy's boy but I have never changed from the day I met her to now."
