Singer Sinead O'Connor has said she plans to "celebrate" her son Shane's life and has asked mourners to wear "colourful clothing" at his funeral on Sunday.

The 17-year-old tragically took his own life last weekend.

According to Sinead earlier this week, her tragic son was Hindu and requested in a note that he wanted a traditional funeral in the wake of his death and only wanted his parents at the service.

It was expected that a service was due to be held at Newlandscross Crematorium but yesterday it was announced that instead Shane will repose at Thomas Murphy and Sons Funeral Home, Boghall Road, Bray Friday from 5pm to 7pm.

In a message on, it read that "colourful clothing" was preferred.

"A memorial service to celebrate Shane's life, for his family and close friends' ', will be held in The Martello, Bray on Sunday, from 2pm until 5pm.

The note read: "Will be lovingly remembered forever by his heartbroken parents Sinead and Donal, his brothers and sisters , grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins, his wonderful carers, extended family and many, many close friends."

Sinead had previously told how Shane was Hindu.

"So the funeral will be just his mother and father," she said at the time.

She asked at the time that "if people are going to send anything to the mortuary at Loughlinstown Hospital or Newlands Cross crematorium, to "please send flowers or Hindu objects."

But it appears Sinead and Donal have decided to change their funeral plans and will now have a more public celebration of his life this
weekend, with the pair asking for family flowers only, "donations to Pieta House".

Earlier this week, Sinead thanked Donal for being a wonderful father to Shane, saying the teen "adored" his father.

"You did your best too, Donal. And Shane adored you," Sinead said.

"And I will always remember how sweet you have been to him. You have been a lovely father. I am so sorry for your loss."
