Strictly’s Giovanni Pernice is learning sign language for his deaf dance partner Rose Ayling-Ellis

Giovanni Pernice has revealed he is learning sign language in order to communicate more effectively with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Rose Ayling-Ellis, the show’s first deaf contestant.

The dancing professional, 31, delighted fans as he made the announcement during Sunday’s episode of the BBC One favourite.

After being sent through to next week’s installment, presenter Claudia Winkleman commented, ‘Giovanni you have been learning so much signing.

The EastEnders star, 26, leaped at the opportunity as she began quizzing the choreographer on words, ‘commitment, focus, quick, slow, improvement, and shockingly horrible.’

Showing her hilarious sense of humour, she added ‘And very rarely, “Well done,”‘ before the trio burst into laughter.

Viewers couldn’t contain their delight by the news, rushing to Twitter to share their elation regarding Giovanni’s latest venture.

Rose and Giovanni were the first couple to dance on the night and performed the Cha Cha Cha to Raspberry Beret by Prince.

Rose looked dazzling in a colourful top, fringed trousers and a raspberry beret in a nod to the song. 

Following the dance, Motsi remarked that she felt Rose’s nerves but believed she was gaining confidence and ‘getting stronger and stronger’, adding: ‘just keep going!’

Craig said she needed to work on her hip action, but added that she was ‘getting there’, while Shirley commended Giovanni’s leadership.
