Value Scope: Steve Jones fancies an 8-1 shot in Saturday’s Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton

Double Shuffle (far side) is one of this weekend's Value Scope selections

DOUBLE SHUFFLE (3.15) might be getting on a bit but he loves Kempton.

He won this 3m chase 12 months ago and went on to run a good race in the Grade 3 handicap over this course and distance last season. That was the race he had twice previously finished runner-up in and he filled the same position in the 2017 King George behind Might Bite.

His dismal effort in the Badger Beer was clearly not his form and he’s had a nice break since.

He’s just turned 12-years-old but Tom George is a master at keeping these veterans sweet. Have 1pt each-way at 11-1.

Hampshire trainer Chris Gordon has been firing in the winners recently and his LORD BADDESLEY (3.50) is a good bet to continue the stable’s hot streak in Kempton’s final race.

He was given an understandably considerate ride when third at this track over Christmas after failing to take to fences.

This should set up nicely for him with plenty of potential pacesetters in the field. Have 1pt each-way at 7-1.

The Agetur UK Classic Chase is the feature race as Warwick hosts its biggest meeting of the year.

ACHILLE (3.00) was runner-up in this 3m5f marathon last year when having his first start for more than a year.

He’s had some prep races this time but hasn’t enjoyed much luck, including when wiped out at the start before finishing an excellent fourth in the Welsh National.

With Venetia Williams in good form and Charlie Deutsch riding brilliantly he is worth a bet. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1 with several firms paying out on five places.
